Steam WorkShop Broke

Postby Fireman » Sat May 25, 2019 7:58 am

Was having an issue with the map KF-CytologyLab, it would not update. Tried my usual work-around and that did not fix it so I thought it was something with that map and it's files that are on Steam WorkShop. Tried adding a new map and again, nothing gets downloaded from the Steam WorkShop to our server.

So, you might run in to a map that you select and no other players can join. I will post on Tripwire and see if I get a response. From what I can tell, everything was working fine up until March, which is the last date of updates I saw on the server regarding maps.

In talking with Seanchaoz, maker of numerous maps, KF-CytologyLab for one, I thought there was something wrong with his file for that map at Steam Workshop. He stated that he is getting all kind of errors from the SteamWorkshop and perhaps the Open Beta Tripwire is doing is causing issues, which it has been known to do.

Contacted NFO since they had that "Switch" issue and performed maintenance to our box and their side of things, Cody stated that everything looked good but would do some testing on our KF2 #2 server when he is done with NFO Support for the day.

So I am thinking that perhaps it is a conflict between Steam and the Open Beta Testing. Will have to wait and see, I would hate to think that the Steam Workshop will be broken for some unknown reason for who knows how long. When I find something out I will post here again.

There was a fix recommended by Romano over at Tripwire forums, he felt sure it was the Steam bug that pops up now and then. I relayed this info to Cody at NFO, he ran the SteamCmd and replaced all the Steam .dll files with the new ones he downloaded through the Steam Cmd prompt. That fixed server #1 that we were testing on. He is going to get with the CEO to see how they can package this to run on all the KF2 servers they are handling and this will fix all of ours and others that might be affected.

Evidently, Tripwire has it to where only the necessary .dll files are kept up to date in one place, but not in the other........... the Window64 Binaries.................. which is where the problem is when those .dlls in the binaries get corrupted on a server. It happens randomly but can cause all kind of issues on Servers using the Steam Workshop files.

So we are on our way to getting all of our servers up to date, IF any of those files were old and corrupted.

As recommended by NFO support, I manually updated all of our KF2 servers so the steamclient64.dll, tier0_s64.dl and vstdlib_s64.dll from the base files in /Binaries/Win64/ match the same .dll files in the game directory's base files.

TWI updated those .dlls quite awhile ago BUT ONLY in the base files and NOT in the Binaries/Win64/ files. TWI's support is almost non-existent anymore!

Well, after doing all that I began experiencing bad issues with our servers. You might get in to game and loose connection ... then the server hangs for a while.

Am running through trouble shooting the issues withe our KF2 servers. I have wiped server #1 so it will be stock until I can test it out to see if issues persist. If it fixes #1, then I will repair all of them....... which reverts them back to a stock layout. Slowly I can modify each server back to what they were a couple of days ago.

Sorry, but trying to run down what is causing the Steam Workshop issue has been frustrating and neither I nor NFO has gotten any response from TWI on this.
Getting real close to being done with it all.

Update.... in trying to isolate the issue, server #1 was wiped. All stock files and maps. I edited the proper files so it shows up in Game Browser as before and WebAdmin will come up.

With all servers shut down other than #1, I was able to play a game without issues. So now, I am going to start one additional server at a time and try to play a game on #1. I will only restart one other server at a time in order to isolate what server(s) are causing this problem. It might be all of them or just one or a combination.

Until then, you will see servers come and go.

Ok, after testing yesterday afternoon in to the evening, then again for several hrs. this morning.............. I got no where. What looked good last night was not good this morning. No server combination was without causing issues on server #1. So I relayed all the info and details I had on the testing Scorpio, Benjie and myself did.

NFO Support, Cody, passed it on to John, the CEO to check an IO issue on the HD.

Got a response just a bit ago from John and here is what he said,

" Mark,

The Windows events log is showing an occasional ATAPI error in the logs, so I think a replacement machine here is our best bet. I will start working on that for you now. s

Thanks,
John
Founder/President "

So I assume he will migrate all our stuff over to a new box. Fingers crossed that is all it was all along.
