Anyone heard from Scorp? He lives up near that one fire in Yucaipa, San Bernardino County ...

Just got a text back from Scorp - he and the family are fine; lots of ash on their cars and house (we have that here, too, in San Diego from the Alpine fire).

Well, the weather folks were predicting high winds whipping down from the desert - what they call "Santa Ana" winds. But ... nothing so far. Been cool and overcast. (The Santa Anas always blow any clouds far out to sea, so you get very dry, very hot conditions.) "Red Flag" fire warning ends in an hour ...

Alive and well. Lots of smoke in the air. Fire is a couple miles away but mostly houses between us and it. People in the wooded areas and on the hills are the ones that got hit hard. We're kinda surrounded by a golf course and it might be a false sense of security but they have a massive sprinkler system so the trees are not dry like in the other areas. Air quality is for shit so not riding (bike) locally.

Hoping and praying the weather will lend a hand to ease the situation out west. Unfortunately, it will be too late for so many!

Just read in this morning's paper that it's the worst year for air tanker crashes ever. Also that article had a chart of the different air tankers and choppers - didn't realize they've been converting 747s to air tankers! That's a LOT of water ...
