Yeah I cant play any of those.I am terrible at finger picking abd I can forget about Jazz style, those scales and chords are a pain to finger.

Although I can play these songs all the way through, although Im a bit rusty.
I have forgotten how to play so many songs thru the years its sad. these days I learn more rhythms than I do leads

1st song I ever learned

2nd song I learned, this song made my fingers bleed...literally trying to learn this. The are 2 solos

Another I learned few years back

Well I found some recordings I did of some cover songs years back. Recordings are not the best, used a crappy PC and sound card.
But all guitars are me,the bands are backing tracks I made using programs for the drums, bass, backing voices....well anything that isnt a guitar is PC done by me using VSTi plugins.
They are ok but the crappy sound card made them a pain in the ass to try and keep sync since I had no mics,I had to tap into the sound card itself from a pedal board that I used to simulate an amplifier. There is no amp used in any of those recordings so the guitar tone I dont care for, there was no way for me to use my 100w Marshall stack at the time....too LOUD at 2am.
They are ok but it was just for me playing with recording software and programs to learn how to use them.

This one just sucks for sound and timing is off,but oh well.

That's a pretty good cover of Crazy Train, Twitch! The thing about Randy Rhoads that was so impressive was his ability to lay a melodic lead atop the rhythm he was playing - only Hendrix, Trower and Stevie Ray ever did it as well besides him.

Lightnin' Hopkins' videos always amaze me with the techniques he came up with.

As for Chris Parkening, he was the great Andres Segovia's favorite pupil - and when the Grammys gave Segovia a lifetime achievement Grammy in '84, I think, he was too old to attend and accept it - so he sent Parkening to accept it for him. They also had Parkening play Bach - he comes out with just a stool, a mic and his gut-strung clasical. Starts playing, and everyone in the crowd is still talking. But as he kept playing - and you watch that video above and see how incredible Parkening is - the cameras swung out to the crowd, and Eddie Van Halen's mouth is just dropped open - like he can't believe how good this classical guy is.

Real irony is Parkening got burned out on music in the late '80s, and retired - moved to Montana and became a world-class fly fisherman, taking rich guys out on backcountry treks for trout. Then a few years later, he started back to playing a bit. Sounds awfully good still, if not quite up to his old world-class standards.

Thanks. Those Ozzy recordings I did were bad guitar sounds.I remember being irritated that some how the level knob got bumped up higher and it made the tone more harsh then what it should have and caused clipping and I just used Reaper to pull some of it out.

Yeah Rhoads was awesome at melodies and layering multiple guitar parts over to get a melody.Another thing that made his recordings sound unique was that all guitar parts were layered at least 3 times on top of each other.Even the solos he had the ability to play all 3 layers multiple times note for note which gave his sound an almost delay sounding effect on his albums.

These days they just overlap the same recording on top of each other to try and do that but it does NOT sound the same.

Hendrix,Rhoads,EVH.Clapton,Robert Johnson, and David Gilmour .There are others but those are great.
Current guitar players are not too many I really would look up to these days except for maybe Slash. Not that he does anything like those above but he can make that guitar weep when he wants.

Well I was curious about some Randy Rhoads guitar playing and found some isolated tracks of him playing from the original studio recordings.
These tracks are only his guitar parts.
This guy was a master in the studio, more so than I ever realized.

The first is Diary of a madman, one of his favorite songs.

This one is just crazy train. But after listening to this I can clearly see why I had so much trouble years ago trying to learn the solo. Its sounds like in spots there is more than 1 guitar playing different parts combined into one sound.I used to get so pissed that i couldnt figure why i sounded so different in those parts.

A few years ago, I tracked down the two Japan-only Quiet Riot releases with Randy Rhoads - and was disappointed. He really did find his voice in Ozzy's band ...

I did the same thing and was also disappointed. He did have a song or that was good.
They released some studio stuff of Randy's from the Quiet Riot days that wasnt bad,

Hey Twitch, try this one, it's one of my favorite solos. If, when, I get back in to playing my guitar, I really want to learn this one. It would be great to pull this out at a party.
